Thakzin is gearing up for his next musical venture with ‘Maphorisa’, a massive collaboration set to introduce his forthcoming album COMMON GROUND, due out via Sondela Recordings. South Africa’s 3Step originator unites Mpho.WAV, Atmos Blaq, Tete, Ozana, Kisto, Moonchild Sanelly, Baby S.O.N, Suffocate SA and Citizen Deep for what is his biggest ever collective recording.

Coming from the God’s Window Pt. 1 sessions, ‘Maphorisa’ captures the spirit and variety of South Africa’s electronic music scene. Taking in 3Step, Afro House, Afro Tech and more besides, the track acts as a meeting point for contrasting approaches and personalities. Each contributor has brought something of their own style and substance to the track, allowing the music to flow from exchange, experimentation and shared feeling.

Beyond the sheer heft of the cast list, ‘Maphorisa’ captures the magic of people coming together with a common purpose. It is a track built on the sheer joy of its collaborators, who drew from their own movement and music to make something that reflects the feeling of a dance floor where differences are set aside in exchange for a shared experience.

That same sense of exchange underlines the wider COMMON GROUND project, which spans across 8 tracks and a varied palette of influences. While bringing together musical styles, cultures and approaches, the album is united by a vital theme of finding ways for different people and approaches to come together. The album’s thesis is simple: that difference need not be a barrier to collaboration, be that across rhythms and styles or in the ways that we see the world.

‘Maphorisa’ encapsulates this ethos in its turn, with its cast and collaborative approach capturing the feeling of a dance floor where differences are put aside in the name of a shared rhythm. It is a celebration of how music can bring people together, and the freedom that can come with that.

As an introduction to COMMON GROUND, the single is all about finding connection through music – and the possibilities that can come with that. It does not dictate or insist, but invites listeners to find their own approach to collaboration, creativity and dancing.

‘Maphorisa‘ is out Friday, 23 October 2026, on Sondela Recordings.
Thakzin‘s forthcoming album COMMON GROUND is due 13 November 2026.
