Introduce Yourself.

I’m Tomi H, a London-based DJ and producer, and I’m thrilled to release my debut single, WANDER. This track also marks the launch of my own label, Forever Upward, and introduces a new musical chapter for me, one that blends deep, pulsating Afro House rhythms with euphoric melodic techno.

With WANDER, I wanted to create something immersive, a sound that goes beyond the norm. The track features ethereal vocals from COULSON and invites listeners on a hypnotic journey, wrapped in atmosphere and intention. It’s the beginning of what I hope will be a long and meaningful path as both an artist and label head.

The story behind the track

This track has been nearly two years in the making, so it feels like a big moment to finally share it. It started like most of my ideas, naturally, but as I worked on it more, I realised there was an opportunity to create something that truly defined a new signature sound for myself. When you’re building a new “world of sound,” it’s a process full of trial and error. Your ears aren’t yet tuned to those new textures, and you’re constantly trying to balance your vision with where the scene is heading. That can be challenging, but it’s also part of the growth.

There were obstacles along the way. The original vocalist took me on quite a journey, especially after a major label expressed interest. Suddenly, demands changed. He began asking for more than what we had originally agreed, and the label couldn’t accommodate it, so they dropped the track. I was disappointed. It felt like a lost opportunity for both of us, and I was frustrated with the ego-driven behaviour.

Dance music, to me, is about community and lifting each other up, especially in collaborations. Artists and labels don’t have time for ego. That energy doesn’t build the kind of creative world I want to be part of. So, in hindsight, I now see that setback as a blessing in disguise.

After that situation played out, which took about a year and a half, I picked myself up and connected with Luke Coulson, whose vocal tone and creative, ethereal melodies I’ve always admired. He was professional and collaborative from day one. His contribution brought exactly the kind of emotional depth and final touch the track needed.

On production and mastering

One new change I made during the production process was switching to a mastering engineer who uses analog Neve mastering. That’s brought a whole new level of texture and punch to my work, it’s something I’ll definitely continue using. It finally got my production quality to where I’ve always wanted it to be.

Why I started my own label

Creating your own signature sound can come with challenges. Labels often won’t sign something if it doesn’t neatly fit their tone, frequency, or brand identity. That’s understandable, but for me, it meant I had to think outside the box and take a leap of faith, launching my own label, Forever Upward.

It’s a new creative, emotional, and financial investment, but it’s all worth it. It allows me to be seen, heard, and understood as a producer without having to constantly reshape my ideas to fit someone else’s mould. And if tracks don’t get picked up by labels? I can still release them and keep my creative flow alive, without waiting on gatekeepers.

Since I started promoting WANDER, I’ve received support from some incredible names across different genres, and that kind of recognition gives me real hope.

Inspiration and creative influence

I spend long stretches in Ibiza during the summer, and the island has a huge impact on my creativity. It clears and heals my mind, and gives me the space to just be a receiver, rather than a giver, of music. That energy is deeply infused into WANDER.

It’s hard not to rethink a track after watching a great DJ on a powerful system, it shifts your entire perspective. On a more practical level, I’ve also been creatively inspired by artists like Samm (BE), Ajna, and The Scripture, who’ve opened up new ideas for me.

Describing the sound of “WANDER”

I’d describe WANDER as an ethereal blend of melodic techno and Afro elements, something that creates an anthemic moment in a DJ set. It’s emotive, driving, and deeply atmospheric.

What’s next for me as an artist and DJ?

I’ve got lots of exciting collaborations coming up, as well as more releases lined up on Forever Upward. I’m also working on expanding my DJ presence across mainland Europe, especially in Spain, with some amazing artists like Wildness Rose and Varoc. I can’t wait to share those moments with you.

Upcoming releases

First up, WANDER is out now, released on August 1st. Then, on August 22nd, I’ll be dropping another release with Pablo Fierro. That one’s a real journey, a big, epic Afro House track that works beautifully to open or close a set. Another special milestone for me.
