A hypnotic journey through Afro tech sounds, merging Parisian creativity and Düsseldorf’s signature grooves.
The collaboration between Paris-based Hanna Haïs and Düsseldorf producers Dante T. and Mario Da Ragnio has resulted in “Wekena,” a dark yet hypnotic Afro tech track set to release on 7 February 2025 via Donkela Records. The track is available for DJs on Beaport.
This marks a significant step in Afro tech exploration, blending diverse influences and production expertise. “Wekena” stands out with its intricate basslines, rich percussion, and atmospheric vocal snippets.
The track opens with a familiar Afro tech rhythm, gradually morphing into a layered soundscape that feels fresh yet nostalgic. Inspired by the hypnotic tones of The Cure’s “A Forest,” the track balances dark undertones with dancefloor energy, perfect for late-night sets.
The creation of “Wekena” stemmed from serendipitous connections. Dante T.’s spin of Hanna’s track “Space Fair” at Blue Marlin Ibiza laid the groundwork for this collaboration. The trio met at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) 2024, sparking an exchange of ideas that led to the track’s development. After an initial draft from Hanna in Paris, Dante and Mario added their signature styles before Hanna finalized the project. The track reflects this collaborative synergy, weaving together elements from each artist’s background.
