British electronic music pioneer Dave Angel releases his most personal and musically expansive album to date, ‘A Time And Place’, via seminal Belgian label R&S Records.

Marking a significant return to the label with which Dave’s relationship spans more than 30 years, the 15-track album reconnects with the Jazz, Soul and improvisational influences that shaped his musical upbringing, while drawing on decades of experience within electronic music, rave culture and the communities around it.

‘A Time And Place’ is rooted in family, heritage, nature and lived experience, with the album reflecting on the people, places and experiences that continue to inspire Dave’s creativity. Family sits at its heart, with several compositions inspired by his children and grandchildren, capturing moments of joy, connection, growth and reflection.

Nature provides another recurring theme, with experiences of coastlines, forests, wildlife and the natural world translated into vivid musical landscapes. Alongside these personal reflections, the album also looks back at the cultural experiences that have shaped Dave’s musical journey, including the unity of the late 1980s rave movement and the after-hours listening sessions and communal spaces that became an important part of club culture during the 1990s.

The album balances warmth and nostalgia with wider observations on the world today. ‘Apocalypse’ explores global uncertainty, political tension and humanity’s relationship with the planet, providing a darker and more contemplative counterpoint to the album’s deeply personal themes.

Collaboration is central to the record, with contributions from acclaimed trumpeter Steve Waterman, legendary vocalist Robert Owens, guitarist Merv Carswell and Aurii Sky. The album moves fluidly between electronic music, Jazz, Soul and improvisation, bringing together the different musical influences and experiences that have shaped Dave throughout his life.

The album’s closing track, ‘FTOG’s’, meaning ‘For The OGs’, pays tribute to the Jazz musicians who shaped Dave’s earliest musical experiences and his introduction to music, bringing the album full circle through themes of heritage, community, memory and the enduring power of music to connect generations.

From deeply personal family moments and encounters with nature to reflections on rave culture, Jazz heritage and the wider world, ‘A Time And Place’ brings together decades of musical experience in one cohesive and deeply considered body of work.
