Amid the ever-evolving landscape of UK festivals, Houghton has firmly established itself as a sanctuary for high-calibre music and a strong sense of community.

From the moment we arrived—our expectations fuelled by favourable weather forecasts and glowing recommendations—the festival’s inviting atmosphere was immediately palpable. The warm hospitality of the staff and the familiar, smiling faces set the tone for what would become an exceptional weekend. Musically, Houghton is in a league of its own, delivering a sound that resonates deeply, electrifying attendees from start to finish.

Craig Richards and his team have meticulously crafted a space where festival-goers can fully immerse themselves across a variety of thoughtfully curated venues. Houghton is a haven for those who live and breathe music, particularly those with a passion for electronic and underground sounds. The festival is designed with the dedicated raver in mind, offering unmatched production and music curation in a unique, 24-hour experience, epitomised by the standout Terminus venue.

The weekend was a masterclass in curation, with an array of top-tier selectors delivering one memorable set after another. The music channelled the raw, unfiltered energy of the early electronic scene—a nod to the true heads who come to dance.

Singling out one moment is nearly impossible. Craig Richards, the heart and soul of Houghton, was a standout throughout the weekend. His relentless energy and flawless sets provided the festival’s pulse, weaving together a soundtrack that left everyone craving more.

Saturday saw Tini delivering deep minimal vibes at the Pavilion, making it a prime daytime destination. Over at the Derren Smart stage, Daniel Avery’s two-hour set was a masterclass in sound, seamlessly setting the stage for Moodymann’s signature Chicago house rhythms. As night turned into early morning at Stallions, it became nearly impossible to leave, with Luke Una, Gene on Earth, and The Ghost keeping the energy flowing into the dawn.

Sunday at the Earthling stage was especially memorable, with Red Axes delivering a sun-soaked, dust-covered set that breathed life into the forest. Hunee closed out Earthlings with an incredible, upbeat disco set, launching the crowd into an ecstatic finale.

The festival culminated with Rhadoo and Ricardo Villalobos taking on closing duties, once again proving why they are considered among the best in the game.

What truly sets Houghton apart is its dedicated, in-tune crowd. Their warmth and friendliness make the festival feel like home. This strong sense of community is a testament to the passion Craig, Amanda, and Flo pour into this event. Leaving was bittersweet—Houghton is the kind of festival you wish would never end.
