Indie Dance Trio Pushes Boundaries with Genre-Bending Sophomore Album

Out now on 20/20 Vision Recordings

Los Angeles trio, ASHRR, announces the release of their eagerly awaited second album, Sunshine Low, via 20/20 Vision Recordings. Renowned for their eclectic blend of electronic soul, post-punk, space disco, and indie dance, ASHRR’’s new album weaves the feel of dreamy summer nostalgia with the pulse of late-night thrills, creating an unforgettable soundtrack.

The album showcases standout tracks such as “Fizzy,” a 70’s influenced soul-drenched dub-disco meets NYC underground jam, and “Sway,” which has echoes of Roxy Music and post-punk dance floor favorites. “Please Don’t Stop The Rain” offers a DJ influenced electronic soul track with an unforgettable hook, while “Sun Song” mixes in world music influences and modern psychedelia. On “No Garden,” ASHRR mixes hip-hop beats with jazz-infused soul, and dub, powered by deep basslines and hypnotic percussion. The track’s dark, moody vibe is laced with psychedelic undertones, while the defiant lyrics—”I won’t let you take me down”—bring an edge of resilience and resolve.

“Different Kind of Life” captures the essence of samsara—the endless cycle of desire, always yearning for more, never satisfied with the present. The song’s Afrobeat rhythms nod to the late ’70s, fused seamlessly with the raw energy of post-punk. It’s the kind of soul-drenched, dance floor anthem Larry Levan would have spun at Paradise Garage, turning Saturday night into an ecstatic release.

“The chemistry between us was immediate,” Josh Charles of ASHRR reflects on the two year recording of the album. “Sunshine Low emerged from the pandemic and captures the profound connection we’ve forged over the years. We’ve woven influences from 70s psychedelia and afrobeat, 80s alternative, and contemporary electronic music into something we hope becomes truly timeless. With Sunshine Low, we’ve embraced our roots in soul, funk, jazz, and experimental music, crafting something that’s both reflective and joyous. We’re excited to share this album with the world.”

Composed of lead vocalist Steven Davis and producers Josh Charles and Ethan Allen, ASHRR has gained recognition for their unique fusion of rich harmonies, immersive soundscapes, and versatile songwriting. Their diverse backgrounds—spanning all genres —infuse their music with a captivating depth.

Josh added, “When we met Ethan, it was just a given that we were going to end up making music together. There is a unique bond between the three of us. We have a brotherhood basically. It’s an honor and thrill to be able to call these guys my friends”.

In addition to the new album, ASHRR’s dedication to dance music is further highlighted by their collaboration with UK’s Felix Dickinson, who reimagined “Fizzy” for the celebrated Crazy P Curate: Vol 1, along with previously released remixes from System Olympia, Massimiliano Pagliara, Lovefingers, and Scientist, expanding the trio’s indie-electronic sound into clubland.

Fans can also look forward to a special edition of their alter ego hybrid ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM remixes of the full album, offering a dynamic, immersive experience on the dancefloor.
