Gary Beck has returned with a powerful new release on Warg Records. The Glasgow-based techno producer will release his 4-track ‘Zone X’ EP on Friday 6th November. Combining hard-hitting beats, mesmerising arrangements and the detail-oriented sound that Gary is known for.
Gary is a well-known face in the techno scene, having come to prominence in the late 2000s. With a unique sound combining mechanical rhythms and powerful, functional production. He has released music on prestigious labels such as Mutual Rytm, CROWD and Soma and has established himself as an influential figure within the global underground scene. Having played at some of the world’s most famous clubs and events, such as fabric London, Womb Tokyo, Awakenings, Output NYC and Timewarp. Gary has also completed an award-winning BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.
This latest release sees Gary team up with Warg Records who are run by SPEZ. The label and event company specialise in harder, more experimental sounds. The label has grown from just being a party series to now a global brand. The release begins with ‘Zone X’. This is a high-energy track containing fast-paced drum patterns and detailed percussion. ‘Bronze Heart’ moves into heavier territory with powerful, kick-heavy rhythms and gritty, aged synth.
‘Charlie Won’t Come Down’ has a more laid-back vibe, with the track being based around a tight loop. Subtle changes to the rhythm create a hypnotic feel. Finally, ‘Salt Pan’ rounds off the EP with a dub-influenced sound. The track uses steamy vocal samples and distorted melodies to create a tense atmosphere.
Overall, Gary has created a varied release which showcases all aspects of his production. ‘Zone X’ is another confident release which demonstrates Gary’s ability to produce powerful and functional techno.
